TRUDEAU STORIES, 2009

Written and performed by Brooke Johnson

Directed by Allyson McMackon

Brook Johnson

In 1985, while she was a student at the National Theatre School in Montreal, Brooke Johnson became friends with Pierre Elliott Trudeau.

It had been a year and a half since he’d stepped down as Prime Minister, and now he was walking to work, putting cereal bowls on cartoon placemats, washing dishes and making peanut-butter on toast. He was no longer doing pirouettes behind the Queen but sometimes he was hanging around with Brooke, sliding down staircases on Mount Royal.

Through reminiscences, journal entries and correspondence, Brooke brings to life the story of a remarkable friendship.

With over 25 years of live performances under his belt, Canadian humourist Lorne Elliott may still be best known for his eleven seasons as the host of his own CBC Radio series, Madly Off in all Directions.

His newest comedy and music theatre endeavour, the 2009 Catch Him Before He Croaks Tour, turns the serious heart attack he experienced in 2007 into a characteristically light-hearted, delightfully foolish, witty and thought-provoking show about redefining priorities in view of such life events.

UNTVJoin us at the Destination Gallery after the show for a reception celebrating Ship’s Company’s 25th Anniversary!
