LoneCloud Shares Expressive Jazz, Rock, Blues Compositions in Concert

PARRSBORO NS:  Dynamic Truro-based band LoneCloud will share its expressive and evocative musical offerings in a live performance at Ship’s Company Theatre on Monday, August 9th.

Established in celebration of medicine man Jerry Lonecloud, the band was assembled four years ago by Alan Syliboy, percussionist with the band. LoneCloud continues the healing tradition with songs that address the ills of a modern day existence, featuring bandmembers Evan Syliboy on guitar, Jeff Benetti on woodwinds, guitar and vocals, and the newest member of the band, guitarist and vocalist Rachael Henderson, whose commanding voice adds a welcome element to this gifted group. Musicians J. Hubert Francis, Cathy Porter and Byron Simon also join with the band on occasion.

Lonecloud recently released their new album, Live at North Street Church, recorded by CBC Halifax as part of the ‘Truth and Reconciliation’ project.  The band received their first East Coast Music Award nomination in 2010 for Aboriginal Recording of the Year, and performed at the ECMA celebrations LoneCloud has performed widely in the region, as the unique sound of their expressive and evocative songs becomes known and sought-after. Founding member and noted artiist, Alan Syliboy,  recently created a rich painting on canvas depicting Grand Chief Henri Membertou. in commemoration of the 40th Anniversary of the Chief’s baptism. The painting was presented to Queen Elizabeth II  during the Royal tour of the Mi’kmaq Cultural Village at the Halifax Common in late June. Syliboy’s colourful and compelling artwork  was showcased at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
