Colin Grant's Celtic Fusion Enlivens Ship’s Company Theatre Stage
by Rena Kossatz, Ship's Company TheatrePARRSBORO NS: Innovative fiddler Colin Grant and his band are set to enliven the stage at Ship’s Company Theatre in Parrsboro on Monday, July 26, 2010 at 8 p.m.
Colin Grant is a dedicated and energetic young musician who infuses arrangements of traditional and original tunes with fervor and expertise. Colin began his musical journey in Toronto, undertaking the study of classical violin at the Royal Conservatory of Music at the age of four years. By the age of ten, Colin had begun to explore the Cape Breton style of traditional music. He attended the Gaelic College of Celtic Arts and Crafts, studying piano accompaniment, step dancing, and fiddle, and studied guitar and fiddle with the acclaimed musician and teacher, Allie Bennett.
Colin soon developed his own original style, which he shared with audiences at ceilidhs, concerts, and dances around the Island. In 2003, Colin was accepted into the National Artists Program and in the years since he has performed across Canada, and in China, France, and Indonesia.
Colin was nominated for Roots/Traditional Solo Album of the Year at the East Coast Music Awards (ECMA) for his self-titled debut CD. His second album, entitled Fun for the Whole Family, was released recently, to much acclaim. Colin continues to progress in his diverse musical pursuits.
