PARRSBORO, NS:  Beloved New Brunswick writer and actor Marshall Button will perform his down-to-earth and highly entertaining one-man show Lucien  at Ship’s Company Theatre, 18 Lower Main Street, Parrsboro, Nova Scotia, July 28th through 30th.

Lucien is an opinionated, North Shore New Brunswick blue-collar philosopher who shares his opinions wryly and openly on a variety of social topics.  The character was based on Marshall’s own experiences working in the paper mill in his hometown of Dalhousie, New Brunswick.

Marshall Button created Lucien in 1984 as a two minute monologue in the satirical Bicentennial revue, Maritime Mixed Grill in Fredericton, New Brunswick.  The show premiered as a full-length solo play in 1986.  The character has since evolved to the point of assimilating well over eight hours of bilingual material, which has found its way into four different full-length plays: Lucien, Lucien’s Labour Lost, Lucien Snowbird and Lucien Four: Helter Smelter.

The Ottawa Citizen Theatre Review of one of Marshall’s performances at the Upper Canada Playhouse read, “Marshall Button as Lucien is a cultural icon… Lucien is a kind of gift from Button to the rest of the country, an Acadian blessing of laughter and perspective and from the heart wisdom… In the 10 years since he strolled on the stage, mangling the language but never the heart and soul behind it, Lucien has become a Canadian cultural icon.”

Button has performed Lucien  well over 1500 times in theatres across the country, and has performed in Afghanistan for the Canadian troops in 2006. Marshall has appeared to great acclaim on Royal Canadian Airfarce, CBC Radio, HubCap Comedy Festival, East Coast Music Awards, and Sportsnet.
