PARRSBORO NS: Inspirational singer/songwriter Chelsea Nisbett will be sharing her gift of music during an evening of live performance at Ship’s Company Theatre in Parrsboro on Monday, July 12.
Chelsea is a young new talent emerging on the region’s music scene. Her dynamic sound and inspiring lyrics have led to various awards and nominations for her vibrant first album, New Beginnings.
Chelsea won an Up and Coming Youth Award at the African Nova Scotia Music Awards (ANSMA) and was named winner of Inspirational Artist/Recording of the Year at the East Coast Music Awards (ECMA) in 2007. Chelsea was awarded Gospel Recording of the Year at the ECMAs in 2008, and also received a nomination for African-Canadian Recording of the Year.
Chelsea released her new and first full length album, titled Anchored Roots, in April of this year. The album was produced in both Winnipeg and Nashville, and is receiving attention and airplay across Canada.
Chelsea’s multi-cultural background and wide spectrum of musical influences have helped form her unique contemporary sound, infusing Acoustic Rock, Jazz, Rhythm ‘n’ Blues and Soul. Singing in choirs at elementary school and in church piqued Chelsea’s interest in performing on stage. In high school, she began to perform outside of the choirs, singing solos at various events. Chelsea has performed on a number of television segments including: ATV’s annual Christmas Daddies Telethon, Global Noon, Breakfast Television, EastLink Magazine and 100 Huntley Street. She has also had the privilege of sharing the stage with successful musicians including the Jeff Somers Band, sensation Gary Beals, and the internationally renowned group, Avalon.
