PARRSBORO NS: Perry Kossatz, a dedicated member of the Board of Parrsboro’s Ship’s Company Theatre, was surprised to be announced as the recipient of a Robert Merritt Award for Volunteer of the Year during Theatre Nova Scotia’s Monday evening ceremony at Alderney Landing. “I love the Arts”, declared Kossatz as he accepted his statue in front of a lively crowd.

Perry has been a member of the Board of Directors of Ship's Company Theatre since 2007, during which time he has demonstrated extraordinary commitment to a number of aspects of the company.  As Chair of the Revenue Generation Committee, Perry has been instrumental in generating significant and consistent monies - in the tens of thousands of dollars - through fundraising initiatives and new sponsorships. He has brought individuals and companies on board as sponsors, as participants, and as neophyte theatre-goers. As a result of his efforts, Ship's Company has seen a rise in both the popularity of and the revenues from its fundraising events, examples of which are the Halifax Dinner and the annual Golf Tournament in Parrsboro. New seating, new signage, fresh paint for the Kip as she celebrated 25 years as the home of Ship's Company, and much-needed technical and system upgrades are some of the myriad things Perry has managed to obtain for Ship's Company Theatre.

As a member of the Facilities committee, Perry has solicited, acquired, transported, and often helped to install equipment critical to the operation of the building. His background and professional expertise aid him in recognizing areas of need, and in orchestrating timely and effective solutions.

Perry has a hands-on, total immersion approach to his commitments, and is a natural leader in inviting and encouraging others to do the same. With unflagging energy, he is invariably pleasant, enthusiastic and positive-minded at all times. As the husband of Ship's Company's Director of Marketing and Public Relations, Fundraising Coordinator, and Graphic Designer (all one person!) he selflessly gives his endless support on a personal level, as well. Without Perry’s many generous contributions and efforts, Ship’s Company Theatre would not be where it is today.

Perry is a member of Theatre Nova Scotia.
