The musical roots of the phenomenal Abrams Brothers reach back to their great-grandparents. Musical collaborations, whether at hometown performances, in the recording studio, or on tour, are a rich Abrams family tradition.

John and James, who began playing at the ages of nine and six, respectively, and their cousin Elijah, demonstrate a remarkable mastery over their instruments -  John on guitar, mandolin and violin, James on violin and viola, and Elijah on upright bass. Delivering their pure vocal harmonies in both original tunes and traditional classics, these remarkable young men have the sound of well-rounded, fully developed veteran musicians.

“The Abrams are an immensely wonderful and talented family, and so steeped in many traditions of music”, says Chris Brown, producer of the band’s acclaimed CD ‘Blue on Brown’, their tribute to folk legends Arlo Guthrie and Bob Dylan. “It’s like they bring tradition to the table all the time, but it’s really living and beautified.”

In 2005, the Ontario-based group became the youngest Canadians to appear on Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry. They have traveled overseas, performing in four countries European countries and in Israel, and in 2006 received the Daniel Pearl Memorial violin, given to especially gifted young musicians in honour of international journalist and musician Daniel Pearl.

Arlo Guthrie recognized the talents of these youngsters when he first heard them playing, declaring, “They’re way too young to be playing that good.” “I know I will be hearing from the Abrams Brothers for a long time to come.”

Hear the phenomenal Abrams Brothers at Ship’s Company Theatre on Monday, August 17th, returning this season to Parrsboro after a rousing, sold-out performance in 2008.
