Songwriters' Circle heats up Concert Series
by Tina Smith, Ship's Company TheatrePARRSBORO - Ship's Company's Monday Night Concert Series just got a little hotter! This coming Monday, July 23rd three fabulous young songwriters take the stage for an evening of stories and songs that will be sure to set the stage on fire!
A confident artist just breaking into his prime, Dave Carmichael has been making distinctive music for the past 12 years, releasing 2 critically acclaimed albums, Perspective and Emergence, both of which manifested in several ECMA & MIANS nominations. His latest CD, Spirit Dance was recently nominated for the 2006 Canadian Folk Music Awards for New/Emerging Artist of the year. His songs have elements of rock and pop but at their core is roots music, Dave has an obvious respect for roots music and his writing displays a raw honesty with a sincere deliverance to the audience.
Joining Dave Carmichael is the first place winner in the 2006 International Songwriting Competition, David Myles whose songs are infectiously "hummable". His latest album, Things Have Changed, combines inspired horns, skilled finger-picking, and rich vocals. With songs that ache with a faith for love in the face of harsh realities, Myles songs have a passion that evokes the godfather of Canadian Folk, Gordon Lightfoot. Starting out as a trumpet player in jazz and soul bands and then gravitating to playing guitar and writing songs, Dave Myles has his feet in both worlds, giving the audience a uniquely flavored sound experience!
Completing the Songwriters' Circle is one of Halifax's best-kept secrets, Lindsay Barr. With her enthusiastic jazzy funk and soulful throaty vocals she is definitely a force to be reckoned with! Her debut album, Devils of Pride, has been garnering rave reviews and her legion of fans is growing rapidly. Her moving lyrics combined with her spirited and dynamic performance makes her someone not to be missed.
Artistic Director Pamela Halstead says of this line-up, "I have seen each of these singer/songwriter's hold a room captive with their talent and I have hand picked this combination to create a powerful and magical night for the Ship's Company audience. It is a concert not to be missed."
