“Cowgirl’s Sweetheart ~ A Tribute to Wilf Carter” :The Songs and the Story

A very special musical tribute to Nova Scotia’s own beloved troubadour, Wilf Carter, is coming soon to Ship’s Company Theatre in Parrsboro.

From his humble beginnings as a the son of a Nova Scotia preacher to his prominence on the world stage, Wilf Carter grew to become a beloved figure to his legions of devoted fans. With a career that spanned more than sixty years, Wilf Carter was one of the most influential singers and songwriters in country music history, and was an inspiration to Gene Autry, Marty Robbins, Merle Haggard and countless others.

Songwriter, singer, guitarist, dobroist, and lap steel player, Nathan Tinkham, is considered one of the finest country music collaborators in the west. From a CBC radio special he wrote in 1995, from interviews with Wilf Carter and some of his closest friends, Tinkham has put together a retrospective tribute to Wilf Carter. With Wilf’s blessing, Nathan tells the story of Carter’s dream of being a cowboy singer, and performs many of Wilf’s most popular songs.

Joining Nathan Tinkham in this musical tribute will be renowned fiddler, Gordon Stobbe, and perennial favourite, Greg Simm, multi-instrumentalist and multi-tasking Associate Artist with the Ship’s Company Theatre.
